African Story Telling

‪African traditions are rich with oral storytelling. To honor the heritage and talents present within our community, the Angela Snyder Elementary School will host a storytelling event in the library on Friday, February 10, 2012. The event will be running all day, in order to accommodate the attendance of all grade levels. We will feature special guest Janice Curtis Greene, a renowned griot and storyteller.‬

We are encouraging parent attendance at this event in two ways. Parents who would like to hear these stories and assist at follow-up comprehension stations can contact Ms. Haughney at her email address (THaughney@ASES.org) or by calling our school at 1-443-867-5309. Also, any parent who has a traditional African or African-American story that they would like to share at our event may contact our principal, Ms. Lippy, at her email address (RLippy@ASES.org) or at 1-443-867-5309.

Valentine's Day

Calling All Sweethearts...‬

Recently, our students have been working on a unit to practice their letter-writing skills. Via the wonderful post office mailboxes that we received through community donations, our students will be able to hand-deliver the Valentine's Day notes that they have been writing to each of their classmates. We will be holding a class party to celebrate their achievements and to enjoy one another's company; this will take place at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 14, 2012. We would be glad for any parents who are able to join us for the festivities. The teachers will be providing hot cocoa and marshmallows, but any contributions from our third grade community are welcome as well (although certainly not mandatory!).

Upcoming SCIENCE FAIR

‪Hello Parents!

The annual science fair for the Angela Snyder Elementary School is fast approaching! Projects will be due on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the beginning of the school day. The projects will be displayed on tables in the gymnasium and judged over the course of two days by a panel of school staff members. Parents are invited to join us at 1:30 on Friday, March 30, 2012 for refreshments, the announcement of awards, and an open forum to explore the hard work of our students. Information on project requirements as well as suggested resources will be sent home today in students' homework folders!

Just make sure it is something that you will be comfortable using for the duration of this book. Fill in as much as you can after reading the first two chapters.
